Shine on Floyd

Pink Floyd Tribute Band

Jacque and I found out last April a Pink Floyd tribute band called Shin On Floyd was coming to town, so we bought tickets. We arrived home from the September 14th concert at the Elks Theater in Prescott, AZ. While it's all fresh in my mind, or should I say in the flesh? I have to share this with you all.

Coming from Illinois we were surprised no one scanned out bar coded tickets, we just sat down and soon the theater filled up with very few empty seats here and there in the just under 500 seating area. It's a great venue, a main floor and upper balcony and upper opera boxes. There are no bad seats, we sat near the middle about 6 rows from the front. A sold out show, no surprise. The Elks theater rocks, we will be back.

The couple in front of us were from Minnesota and Jacque and them had a good conversation. The guy behind me seen Pink Floyd at Solders Field in Chicago, and I see Floyd at the Rosemont Horizon in the 80's. The hospital bed was stuck on the cable for maybe ten minutes and didn't slide down to the stage. The main amp's went out and Roger and the backing singers filled in some bass and Do Wha's. Rosemont never had good acoustics, and with 20,000 people was a zoo. I'm happy to say the Elk's show was smaller, more fun and flawless and it all executed without a hitch, and was very very enjoyable. Thanks to all the people who made this happen.

The opening song was In The Flesh - So ya Thought ya Might like to go to the show. To feel the warm thrill of confusion That space cadet glow. I sort of expected that song, I thought it was a very appropriate opening song. I guess about 2/3rd of us were in the age 55 and up category but there were young people in their 20's too, great to see a nice age mix enjoying 50+ year old music. Shin On Floyd was Celebrating 51 years of Dark Side of the Moon - release on March 1st 1973. Who would of thought I'd be this old still listening to these timeless songs?

Back in the day people stood the whole time, and flicked their Bic lighters. Having neuropathy now I would not enjoying standing the whole time. Today no Bic lighters, no pot smoke, no standing, other than dancing. The Band was fantastic, the crowds are fun and polite and the acoustics were great, that is what I really think! There's a nice dance area between the stage and first row and it was enjoyable to see folks dancing. One guy had his walking cane in the air! We left our phone at home, else I would have posted some great pictures.

Eight members make up the band. https://shineonfloyd.com/about/ In fact Jewels vocals for Great Gig in the Sky are better than Floyd's on the Pulse album. She matched the Dark Side of the Moon very well. Kudos to her. The stage has the round guessing 5-7 foot diameter canvas screen that Roger Water should be proud of. Showing the original videos, cartoons, military, and authentic Floyd clips. The audio sound effects were half recorded, baby cries, helicopters, and half live, such the the Brain Damage laughing, and background talking.

I counted 8, 14 and over twenty people dancing, Pigs really got the crowd moving. Who dances to Floyd? Well Prescott does, so says Scott the band leader! He's rights they sure do. Thank you Prescott, for the twirls, the high cane, and the Comfortly Numb slow dances, and the supersonic Run Like Hell dancing. I highly encourage everyone to see Shine On Floyd, see their tour dates online. It was near perfect, maybe the music could of ducked down on on Young Lust during the phone call audio. Minor detail. I also had a lighting suggestion.

People that know me know I have to peek under the hood and learning something new. I was able to visit the audio booth and talk With Bob who controls the DMX512 lighting, he showed me, how he keeps time with the buttons, and how the lights are LED RGB, and laser, and can change shadow masks. Scott the band leaders wife controlled the Laser Lights from a PC. I expected Learning to Fly to have left right wing like flapping lights and I suggested that. Great songs timeless music and lights that Shine on too. Overall a fun experience at a reasonable price and I heard drinks are reasonable too. Keep Shining on.
